Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will continue to operate in security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip for an indefinite period, Interfax reports.
According to him, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country's leadership adhere to a clear policy according to which the Israeli military will maintain its presence in these areas to protect the state's borders and Israeli settlements from jihadist elements.
Katz stressed that he opposes the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon, despite existing international pressure.
The head of the defense department also reported that Benjamin Netanyahu brought this position to the attention of US President Donald Trump and other senior representatives of the American administration.
According to the minister, he also discussed this issue with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Earlier, media outlets, citing sources, reported that Netanyahu informed Trump of his intention not to withdraw Israeli troops from Lebanese territory.
Meanwhile, on Monday night, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced that the US and Iran had reached an agreement to end hostilities. He said the two sides intend to sign a memorandum of understanding on June 19 in Switzerland.
Sharif also noted that both sides announced an immediate cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
