Customs inspectors at Dubai Airport discovered an abandoned suitcase containing over 200 rare animals. The unusual discovery was made during a routine baggage screening, Tengri Travel reports, citing The National News.
A suspicious suitcase attracted the attention of customs officials. After opening it, inspectors discovered dozens of live animals being transported in improper conditions.
According to customs authorities, the luggage contained 129 lizards, 50 frogs, 36 scorpions, and eight snakes. This brings the total number of animals found in the suitcase to over two hundred.
All surviving animals were immediately handed over to specialists from the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. They are currently receiving the necessary assistance.
Authorities said all legal and veterinary procedures related to the case had already been completed.
It has not yet been determined who owned the suitcase or how the animals ended up at the airport.
Similar incidents are regularly reported in various countries around the world. Exotic animals are often transported illegally, hidden in luggage and special containers. Such transportation poses danger not only to the animals themselves but can also pose a threat to the environment and human health.
