Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada has ordered a ban on smartphone use by movement members and Afghan government employees, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Afghanistan International.
According to the publication, the order was issued verbally during a meeting between Akhundzada and the heads of military courts, police chiefs, and representatives of Taliban intelligence services in eight zones of the country.
It is reported that persons who violate this ban will be considered criminals and transferred to military courts for further proceedings.
It was also announced that a special list of individuals under surveillance has been created. It includes information about each individual, including their name, position, place of employment, mobile operator, and phone number.
Previously, a department of the Taliban-run Ministry of Education issued a separate document banning students from bringing smartphones to schools and religious seminaries.
The department previously stated that mobile phones are “one of the three main enemies of Muslims.”
