The Republic of Tajikistan and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) intend to intensify cooperation in developing green energy and attracting investment in sustainable energy projects. This was announced by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan following a meeting between the head of the ministry, Daler Juma, and IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera.
The negotiations took place as part of Kazakhstan Energy Week 2025 and the 16th KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum in Astana.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in a number of key areas, including hydropower development and solar and wind energy projects. Particular attention was paid to attracting foreign investment and sharing best practices and advanced technologies in renewable energy.
The Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan emphasized that the country possesses significant hydropower resources, the effective use of which can contribute to ensuring the region's energy security, strengthening regional cooperation, and the active development of green energy.
Francesco La Camera, in turn, noted Tajikistan's potential as one of the leading producers of green energy in Central Asia and expressed the agency's readiness to support the country's initiatives in the field of sustainable energy development.
It is noted that Tajikistan currently occupies a leading position in the region in terms of the share of green energy in total production.
