In the Sughd region, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and on the instructions of the President of the Republic, Emomali Rahmon, construction continues on a major industrial facility—an iron ore enrichment plant for the Tajik Metallurgical Plant joint-stock company, the regional administration press service reports .
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place this year in Shokadambulok, attended by the head of state. According to authorities, the project's completion marks a new stage in the development of the mining industry and the country's accelerated industrialization.
Over 700 specialists are involved in the construction, including local workers and experts from the People's Republic of China. More than 150 pieces of machinery and equipment are working around the clock. The plan includes the construction of production facilities, auxiliary facilities, three administrative buildings, a dormitory, and a cafeteria.
The project is being implemented in two phases. The first is scheduled to be commissioned by 2027, and the second is expected to be fully completed by 2031. The plant's design capacity is to process 2.5 million tons of ore annually, producing 1.1 million tons of iron concentrate with a metal content of 62–65 percent. In addition to iron ore, the plant will also process other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. A significant portion of the output will be exported, while the remainder will be sold domestically.
After the launch of the first stage, the plant will provide employment for 1,200 people, and upon completion of construction, over 2,000 workers with decent wages.
During a tour of the construction site, Sughd Region Governor Rajab Akhmadzoda instructed the responsible authorities to ensure timely and high-quality completion of the work. He emphasized the project's strategic importance for the country's industrialization, job creation, and import-substituting production.
According to him, alongside the plant's construction, social projects are being carried out in the region, including the construction of schools and medical facilities, as well as road repairs, which should contribute to infrastructure development and improve the quality of life for the population.
Authorities note that the plant's launch will be an important step in strengthening the national economy and increasing the country's export potential.
