Sunday night marked a record for the number of attack drones used by Russia in its attack on Ukraine. According to the country's Air Force, the enemy launched 810 Shahed drones and other variants, as well as 13 missiles—nine Iskander-K cruise missiles and four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles.
According to military data, air defense forces shot down or suppressed 747 drones and four Iskander-K missiles using electronic warfare. However, nine missiles and 54 drones struck 33 targets in Ukraine. Eight were avoided due to debris falling outside the intended targets.
The OSINT project "Oko Hora ✙ News and Analytics" noted that this is the largest drone attack of the conflict. The previous record was 728 drones during the July 9 raid.
Kyiv was the main focus of the attack. Four multi-story residential buildings were damaged in the Ukrainian capital, and civilian infrastructure was damaged. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, a woman and her two-month-old child were killed in the Svyatoshinsky district when part of a building collapsed after a drone struck. A total of 17 people were injured in the capital.
Additionally, according to official reports, three people were injured in Odesa, and four were wounded in Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih. There were no casualties in the Poltava region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported fatalities in Safonovka in Sumy Oblast and in Chernihiv Oblast.
A fire was also reported in Kyiv in the Cabinet of Ministers building of Ukraine. The fire originated on the upper floors and was extinguished by the State Emergency Service.
In his address following the attack, Zelenskyy recalled US President Donald Trump's promise to impose new sanctions against Russia if Moscow refuses peace talks. He stated that "every additional air defense system saves civilian lives," and that "the world can force the Kremlin to stop the killings if there is political will."
