Following the summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, the leaders of the G7 countries adopted a joint statement confirming their intention to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and continue their support for Ukraine.
The published document states that the G7 states intend to increase pressure on Russia's military economy. Specifically, this refers to additional restrictive measures against the oil and gas sector.
Summit participants stated that they believe the current moment is opportune to impose new sanctions. The statement noted that this was facilitated by US President Donald Trump's agreement with Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil and gas supplies pass.
The document places special emphasis on support for Ukraine. The G7 leaders emphasized their unity in supporting Ukraine, its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The statement also expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who, it noted, continue to suffer from attacks on critical infrastructure and cultural heritage.
The G7 countries praised Ukraine's resilience and its successes on the battlefield in recent months. The document emphasizes that a new dynamic is emerging in the situation.
To support this momentum, G7 leaders agreed to increase supplies of air defense systems, interceptor missiles, long-range weapons, and other types of military equipment to Ukraine.
In addition, the organization's countries intend to consider the possibility of granting Ukraine licenses that will allow it to increase military production directly on its territory.
The statement also reaffirmed the country's commitment to continuing to support Ukraine's energy sector to help the country navigate the coming winter.
The G7 includes Germany, the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy, Japan and Canada.
