Six solar power plants with a total capacity of 62 kW have been built and commissioned at the Tajik State University of Commerce in collaboration with local companies and university graduates. This was announced by university Rector Khairullo Nazarzoda at a press conference on January 27.
"Some of the university's classrooms and conference rooms are lit by these solar power plants. We plan to increase the number of such plants in the future," the rector noted.
As stated in the Address of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to the Majlisi Oli on December 16, 2025, the issue of implementing strategic goals, in particular energy independence, is the focus and priority of the country's government.
Khairullo Nazarzoda added that the President's Address to the Majlisi Oli, which addresses the restoration of energy independence and ways to ensure a decent standard of living for the country's population, emphasizes key aspects of economic development and the progress of strategic sectors. According to him, these key goals contribute to the growth of industrial production, increased exports of domestic goods, and the effective use of global market opportunities, which presents unique opportunities for Tajikistan.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, by 2030, the country's total power capacity from solar and wind energy should reach at least 3,000 MW. The construction of solar and wind power plants will improve the operation of the energy system, which is especially important during periods of peak consumption—fall and winter.
It was also noted at the press conference that in 2025, 67% of university graduates were provided with jobs.
