As a result of a combined Russian strike on the night of Tuesday, January 27, approximately 80% of Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region were left without power. This was reported by Oleg Sinegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, on his Telegram channel.
According to him, the strikes were carried out using a Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system and Shahed unmanned aerial vehicles. Two people were injured in the attack. Energy infrastructure facilities and civilian buildings, including schools, were damaged.
Sinegubov noted that the damage to the region's power system is "quite serious." He stated that approximately 80% of Kharkiv and the surrounding region are currently without power due to the implementation of emergency power outage schedules.
A missile strike on Kharkiv was recorded on the evening of January 26. Mayor Igor Terekhov reported on his Telegram channel that, in addition to energy facilities, multi-story residential buildings, two schools, and a kindergarten were damaged.
Additionally, according to the Kharkiv Metro, service on two of its three lines was suspended "due to technical reasons." A corresponding announcement was posted on the metro's official website.
Local residents also report water and heating outages, as well as power surges in areas where power is partially available, according to the Ukrainian online publication Strana.ua, citing local Telegram channels.
Kharkiv had already suffered a massive attack on the night of January 24. According to local authorities, the shelling lasted nearly two and a half hours. Multi-story residential buildings in several districts of the city, private buildings, as well as a local hospital and maternity hospital, were hit. Nineteen people were injured in that attack, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
