US President Donald Trump announced that his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place on August 15, 2025, in Alaska. He posted this on his social media account, Truth Social.
"The long-awaited meeting between myself, the President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin of Russia will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the great state of Alaska. Further details will be announced later," Trump noted.
Shortly before this, answering journalists' questions at the White House, the American leader stated that a potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine could include a "territorial swap" in the interests of both sides. "There will be some territorial exchange for the mutual benefit… We'll get some back, we'll trade some," he said, adding that a substantive discussion on this issue would take place in the near future.
Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov emphasized to reporters that preparations for the meeting would be a "challenging process," but Moscow and Washington would focus their efforts in the coming days on working out the practical and political parameters of the upcoming talks. "This will be an intense process, but we will work on it actively and intensively," he noted.
According to him, the talks will focus on a long-term settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Ushakov added that after the Alaska summit, a new meeting of the leaders could take place in Russia; an invitation to this effect has been extended to the American side.
Trump previously stated that he was prepared to meet with the Russian leader, even if it did not include talks between Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed on August 7 that details of the summit were still being worked out.
