The nineteenth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan on Economic Cooperation was held on August 8 in Astana under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Khokim Kholikzoda, and First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Roman Sklyar. Representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, as well as business circles from both countries, participated in the meeting, according to the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of Tajikistan.
At the meeting, the parties reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the areas of economics, trade, industry, investment and the banking sector, transport, energy, water resources, agriculture, customs, education, science, healthcare, culture, tourism, youth policy, sports, migration, employment, and the environment.
Particular attention was paid to expanding direct trade and economic ties between entrepreneurs, establishing joint industrial ventures, developing regional cooperation, establishing modern investment platforms, and implementing digital technologies. The parties also discussed expanding logistics and infrastructure capabilities to strengthen mutual trade.
According to official data, mutual trade between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan reached USD 1.3 billion in 2024, a 12.6% increase compared to 2023. Kazakhstan consistently ranks among Tajikistan's top three trading partners.
Last year, investment from Kazakhstan to Tajikistan amounted to $217.1 million, an increase of 2.5% compared to 2023. Direct investment also grew by almost 30%, reaching $15.5 million. These figures were the result of the implementation of the Intergovernmental Commission's decisions and active cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.
Following the meeting, a protocol was signed, confirming the agreements reached and the outlined areas for further cooperation.
