The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, took part in a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which took place in Tianjin.
During the event, the Head of State expressed gratitude to the host country, Chinese President Xi Jinping, for the excellent organization of the summit and the warm welcome. According to the Presidential Press Service, Emomali Rahmon praised the role of the SCO in strengthening cooperation between member countries and emphasized the need to further expand political dialogue and joint efforts to achieve constructive goals.
"We consider it important to develop cooperation in priority economic areas, including transport and transit, energy, industry, agriculture, innovation, and digitalization," the President of Tajikistan noted.
The head of state detailed the government's measures to develop transport infrastructure and tap Tajikistan's hydropower potential. He also outlined the country's potential for attracting investment in industry, creating modern mineral processing facilities, and developing the agro-industrial sector.
Emomali Rahmon also called for expanded cooperation in tourism, including eco-tourism, mountain tourism, and medical tourism, given Tajikistan's natural potential.
In the area of regional security, the parties emphasized the importance of jointly combating terrorism, extremism, separatism, and radicalism, as well as countering cyber threats, drug trafficking, and other transnational criminal activity. The head of state expressed gratitude to the participating countries for their support in the establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe.
Furthermore, the agreements signed at the summit to establish the Anti-Drug Center and the Universal Center for Countering Security Threats open new prospects for multilateral cooperation. In particular, Tajikistan's active promotion of the "Dushanbe Process on Countering Terrorism" initiative has received UN support.
The President emphasized Tajikistan's firm position in seeking peaceful solutions to conflicts in the Middle East and other war zones, noting that negotiations and dialogue remain the only way to resolve crises.
In the area of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, initiatives were announced to implement educational and social projects. Partners were also invited to participate in the SCO Youth Forum, which will be held next year in Tajikistan.
Particular attention was paid to Tajikistan's global initiatives, including water resource protection, climate change, and glacier conservation. The President recalled the international platforms "Dushanbe Water Process" and "Dushanbe Process for Glacier Protection," as well as the ongoing initiative to adopt a UN General Assembly resolution, "Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations."
It was also noted that the Lao People's Democratic Republic joined the SCO as its fifteenth dialogue partner.
At the conclusion of the meeting, 15 new cooperation documents were signed, including an agreement on the establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe.
