More than 300 drivers were charged with administrative violations of traffic rules in Dushanbe in the first three days of September as part of Operation Istgokh (Stop), which is aimed at combating illegal parking, stopping, and congestion, according to the capital's police.
According to the agency, violators were held accountable under Article 324 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Tajikistan, which provides for a fine of one calculated unit (75 somoni). Furthermore, the vehicles were towed to an impound lot for a period of three days to one week.
The operation began on September 1. The department did not specify a timeframe. The main causes of congestion, according to police, are the increased number of vehicles, road repairs, and second- and third-lane parking, especially for public transport, which often drops off and picks up passengers in unauthorized areas.
"Since the operation began, numerous violations have been identified, and despite the work already done, the number of violators remains high," the capital's Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized.
The police also urge pedestrians to observe safety rules: do not get into vehicles stopped in the second or third lane, so as not to endanger their lives and the lives of other road users.
