Tajik President Emomali Rahmon delivered a speech at the general debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
At the beginning of his speech, the head of state congratulated member states on the 80th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Charter, emphasizing the important role of the Organization as a universal platform for dialogue, cooperation, and the strengthening of international peace and security.
Emomali Rahmon highlighted the instability and uncertainty facing the modern world, as well as the consequences of climate change. The President emphasized the need for joint and consistent efforts by the international community to strengthen the rule of international law and equal cooperation between small and large states.
The Tajik leader paid special attention to the problems of developing countries, including mountainous and landlocked ones. He called on international organizations to step up efforts to ensure these countries' access to financial resources and supported the reform of international financial mechanisms.
The President noted that many countries continue to suffer from the consequences of crises, poverty, infectious diseases, natural disasters, and food insecurity. In this regard, he emphasized the need to provide targeted support to vulnerable states.
Emomali Rahmon also addressed climate change, noting the rapid melting of glaciers and the deterioration of ecosystems. "We must not remain indifferent to the problems associated with the source of human life—water," the president said.
The leader of Tajikistan presented the country's new water initiative and invited the international community to actively participate in the international conference "Dushanbe Water Process," which will be held in 2026 in the capital of Tajikistan.
The head of state also addressed cybersecurity and the use of digital technologies. He noted that cybercrime should be considered a key challenge to collective security.
In his speech, Emomali Rahmon proposed that the UN General Assembly consider proclaiming an International Year of Legal Education, emphasizing the importance of fostering a global culture of transparency and justice.
The President of Tajikistan reaffirmed the country's commitment to peaceful conflict resolution through political and diplomatic means. He recalled his initiative to adopt a UN General Assembly resolution declaring a "Decade of Peacebuilding for Future Generations," noting that this measure would create a foundation for international cooperation in the face of global instability.
Touching on the situation in the Middle East, Emomali Rahmon stated that a settlement of the Palestinian issue is only possible on the basis of UN resolutions and the "two-state solution." He called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and access for humanitarian aid.
Speaking about Afghanistan, the President emphasized that Tajikistan supports peace, stability, and socio-economic development in the neighboring country.
Emomali Rahmon also expressed support for UN reforms within the framework of the UN 80, UN 2.0, and Pact for the Future initiatives, noting Dushanbe's readiness to actively participate in international cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals.
In conclusion of his speech, the head of state emphasized that Tajikistan is ready to work together with partner countries and all UN members to address pressing global issues.
