On September 22, 2025, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN, which took place at the Organization's headquarters in New York.
The event began with a musical performance by the Sing for Hope youth choir, the Metropolitan Opera Chorus, and pianist David Watkins, conducted by Tilman Michael.
In her speech, the President of the UN General Assembly, Ms. Annalena Baerbock, recalled the history of the Organization, modern challenges and the need to work together.
During the event, a video film dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the UN was shown.
The meeting participants then heard a statement from UN Secretary-General António Guterres. In his address, the Secretary-General noted the importance of the challenging work of UN staff throughout the Organization's history. He addressed the current realities and called for coordinated efforts.
"The only way forward is to act together. Let us prove ourselves worthy of this moment – with clarity, courage, and conviction. And let us make the promise of peace a reality," he noted.
2021 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Maria Ressa spoke at the meeting. In her address, she discussed the challenges facing human rights and information in the digital age.
The event also featured speeches by Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Prime Minister of Norway Gro Harlem Brundtland.
The speeches noted the important role of the UN in ensuring peace, security, sustainable development and human rights.
At the end of the meeting, a speech was given by the Ambassador of Peace, poetess Maryam Bukar Hassan.
It should be noted that all of these calls are consistent with Turkmenistan's fundamental position, which views the UN as the supporting pillar of the modern system of global interaction, a guarantor of the preservation and maintenance of peace and a balance of interests in the international arena.
