Valery Fadeyev, head of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, called for a solution to the problem of hundreds of thousands of migrant children not attending school, RIA Novosti reports.
"Several hundred thousand children, children of migrants, are not attending school. This is an unacceptable situation," he said, speaking at a roundtable in Tashkent.
The Human Rights Council is paying close attention to this issue, as the Russian Constitution provides for universal education for children, Fadeyev noted.
"Sometimes here in Russia, they also give up—oh well, let them live however they want. That's wrong. It's not right. We can't just give up on it. Apparently, if parents want their children to come to Russia, we need to prepare them in advance. If the situation is hopeless, we need to think about how to teach children Russian in Russia. These are all complex organizational challenges," the head of the Human Rights Council said.
A roundtable discussion, "Improving Migration Policy in the Context of Building a Single CIS Labor Market," is taking place today in Tashkent. It was organized by the National Human Rights Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with the Human Rights Council and the Petersburg Dialogue Forum.
