The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has banned transgender people from participating in women's competitions, Interfax reports, citing the Associated Press.
The USOPC has reached out to sports federations to urge them to comply with US President Donald Trump's order.
In February of this year, Trump signed an executive order that would ban transgender people from participating in college sports events where women and girls compete.
He also promised to take measures to prevent transgender people from participating in women's competitions at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. "We will not allow this. And no one will be able to stop us," the head of state said.
The 2024 Paris Olympics have been the scene of controversy over the admission of athletes who had previously failed gender tests to the women's boxing tournament. As a result, Lin Yuting of Taiwan and Iman Khelif of Algeria won gold medals in their weight classes.
