The profit of the telecommunications industry of Tajikistan for the first half of 2025 increased by 14.2% compared to the same period last year. This was announced today at a press conference by the head of the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Isfandiyor Sadullo.
According to him, the total income of the telecommunications sector for the first six months of this year amounted to 2.4 billion somoni, which indicates the stable development and growth of the industry in the context of the active digital transformation of the country's economy.
“The growth in revenue is associated with the expansion of communications infrastructure, an increase in the number of subscribers and an improvement in the quality of services provided,” noted Isfandiyor Sadullo.
The communications service reported that mobile and fixed-line communications are actively developing in the country. The total number of subscribers of telecommunications services has reached 8.3 million people, of which 7.8 million are mobile users, of which 5.6 million are active subscribers. In addition, the number of Internet users in the republic has exceeded 5.1 million, which is 600 thousand more than in the previous six months.
The revenue growth was made possible by a large-scale modernization of the network infrastructure. In the reporting period, 811 base stations were installed, which is five times more than in the same period in 2024. To provide high-speed Internet, more than 250 kilometers of new fiber-optic communication lines were laid, and the total length of trunk fiber-optic lines reached 8,530 kilometers.
“The active implementation of 4G and 5G technologies continues, which allows us to increase the speed and quality of Internet connections for citizens and businesses,” said the head of the Communications Service.
According to him, cooperation with international partners and financial institutions plays a significant role in the development of the industry. Among them are the International Telecommunication Union, the Regional Telecommunication Union, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Asian Development Bank. Investment projects worth over 50 million US dollars are being implemented within the framework of such partnerships.
In addition to telecommunications services, the Communications Service also pays attention to the development of the postal sector. During the reporting period, the volume of postal services provided increased more than threefold – to 8 million somoni. In May 2025, postal exchange with the Russian Federation was restored after a one-year break.
During the press conference, it was also noted that work is underway to digitalize postal services, develop cashless payments and expand the infrastructure of Internet exchange points (IXP), which helps reduce the cost of the Internet and improve the quality of communication.
The Communications Service announced further plans to increase the capacity of international Internet access channels, build data centers and develop digital infrastructure as part of the national strategy for the development of the communications industry until 2035.
“We continue to reform the industry, aimed at ensuring the availability of modern telecommunications services for all citizens of Tajikistan, including residents of remote areas,” summed up Isfandiyor Sadullo.
