Tajik police are investigating two cases of fraud, one involving cars and cash worth hundreds of thousands of somoni, and the other involving the receipt of $9,000 under the guise of customs clearance of food products. This was reported by the Tajik Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Officers from the OMVD-1 for the Shokhmansur district detained Khodjaev K.A., born in 1998, who lives on Jami Street in Dushanbe, on suspicion of fraud.
According to the investigation, in March 2026, the suspect gained the trust of Davlatov D.N., born in 1985, a resident of the Panj district, by introducing himself as a businessman.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Khodjaev K.A., under the pretext of purchasing a residential building for the male victim, received from him a BMW worth 170,000 somoni, as well as 175,000 somoni in cash.
However, the suspect failed to fulfill his obligations and used the funds for personal use. As a result, the victim suffered material damages totaling 345,000 somoni.
In addition, according to law enforcement agencies, Khodjaev similarly gained the trust of Dushanbe resident Davlatzoda U.Sh.
In February 2026, the suspect received two cars from him – a Range Rover and a Toyota Prado, the total value of which was estimated at 620 thousand somoni.
Of this amount, the man returned 260,000 somoni. The remaining 360,000 somoni, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, have not yet been reimbursed.
A criminal case has been opened regarding Khodjaev's alleged illegal actions. A preliminary investigation is currently underway.
Another case of fraud was reported by employees of the Transport Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan.
According to the agency, the fraud was committed by an Afghan citizen temporarily residing in the Sino region.
It was established that in 2024–2025, the suspect deceived a 23-year-old resident of Dushanbe into trusting him and received 9,000 US dollars from him.
The man promised to ensure customs clearance of food products, but did not fulfill his promise.
An investigation is being conducted into this incident.
