A handover ceremony for the latest batch of humanitarian aid from the Russian Federation was held in Dushanbe for the UN World Food Programme's School Feeding Program in Tajikistan, reports NIAT Khovar.
The donated cargo included 121.4 tons of sunflower oil fortified with vitamins A and D, as well as 135 tons of split yellow peas. These products are intended to support the school nutrition program in the republic.
A similar ceremony will be held in Khujand soon, where another 61.7 tons of sunflower oil and 67.5 tons of yellow split peas are planned to be donated.
The UN World Food Programme's school feeding program is the largest project in Tajikistan funded by the Russian Federation. It reaches approximately 450,000 students in grades 1–4 in more than 2,000 schools in 53 cities and districts across the country. Since 2013, over $90 million has been allocated to the program.
Vera Khutorskaia, Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Tajikistan, noted that the supply of high-quality food products from the Russian Federation to rural schools in Tajikistan has become a long-standing tradition. She stated that the significant funds allocated for these purposes are clear evidence of the strategic partnership and allied relations between the two countries.
