An attempt to smuggle drugs on a particularly large scale was foiled on a section of the state border in the Khatlon region of Tajikistan. This was reported by NIAT Khovar, citing the Public Relations Center of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the agency, the incident occurred on April 17 at approximately 12:50 a.m. in the area of responsibility of Military Unit No. 0307 of the Border Troops Directorate of the State Committee for National Security, stationed in the Farkhor District. Three Afghan citizens reportedly illegally crossed the state border and entered Tajikistan.
During the operational combat operations, national security officers and Border Troops personnel established the group's route and thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs.
The violators failed to comply with the border patrol's orders and offered armed resistance. As a result of the operation, two members of the group were neutralized, and one was able to escape during the dark hours.
The bodies of two smugglers, two Kalashnikov assault rifles, two magazines with 35 7.62mm rounds, one hunting rifle, and two bags with 25 packages of narcotics were found and seized at the scene.
According to a forensic examination by the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan, the seized substance was hashish. The total weight of the drug was 25 kilograms.
The Investigative Department of the State Committee for National Security has opened a criminal case under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. An investigation is currently underway.
The agency stated that national security agencies will continue to take all necessary measures to protect the state border and prevent such violations.
It is reported that the situation at the state border remains under control.
