On April 8, 2026, the 43rd meeting of the Working Group on Afghanistan under the CSTO Foreign Ministers' Council was held at the CSTO Secretariat. Acting Deputy Secretary-General of the CSTO Samat Ordabayev and delegations from the organization's member states participated in the meeting, according to the organization's press service.
The event was also attended by representatives of the UNOCT, UNRCCA, the SCO Secretariat, the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure, the Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the CIS Border Troops, and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
During the meeting, a detailed exchange of views took place on the current situation in Afghanistan. Participants noted the continuing high potential risks and threats emanating from the country.
The opinion was expressed on the need to continue humanitarian and economic support for the population of Afghanistan from the CSTO member states.
The meeting participants also expressed a common position on the advisability of further monitoring the situation in Afghanistan and facilitating the establishment of peace processes in the country.
Following the meeting, the Protocol of the 43rd meeting was adopted, and the Work Plan of the Working Group for the second half of 2026 was approved.
