An American Boeing E-3 Sentry airborne early warning and control aircraft was seriously damaged during a missile strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.
According to Air & Space Forces Magazine, the airbase was attacked by an Iranian ballistic missile and several drones. There are reportedly casualties among American troops. In addition to the E-3, a US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker tanker was destroyed at the airbase, and several more were damaged.
The US command has not commented on the incident at the Prince Sultan Air Force Base. Meanwhile, satellite images of the burned-out American aircraft have surfaced online.
Iran continues its systematic efforts to destroy key US military infrastructure that could influence the course of the conflict. Strikes against missile defense radars in Middle Eastern countries in the early days of the conflict significantly reduced the ability of air defense systems to intercept Iranian missiles and drones.
The destruction of airborne early warning aircraft and tankers reduces the US ability to fully utilize its air power. The US Air Force possesses hundreds of Stratotanker tankers and 20 E-3 Sentry aircraft in service.
