The United States has launched a military operation against drug cartels in Ecuador, with local forces also participating. The Pentagon's Southern Command posted a corresponding statement on the social media platform X.
The Pentagon said these operations are a clear example of the commitment of partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to combating narco-terrorism.
It is also noted that the US and Ecuadorian militaries are jointly taking decisive action to counter narco-terrorists, who have long sowed terror, violence, and corruption among citizens throughout the hemisphere.
According to ABC, this is the first time the US military has conducted a ground operation against South American cartels. Previously, the United States had only carried out airstrikes against smuggling boats.
