Strengthening bilateral customs cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan was discussed in Dushanbe at a meeting between Khurshed Karimzoda, Head of the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Nodir Musamukhamedov, Deputy Chairman of the Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This was reported by NIAT Khovar, citing the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to determining customs value, applying import duties, using the reserve valuation method, and developing digitalization and electronic data exchange.
The Head of the Customs Service emphasized the high level of interstate relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, describing them as fraternal and strategic. It was noted that current customs valuation methods apply to all goods, regardless of country of origin, and are not directed against any party.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of advance notification mechanisms and the development of electronic interactions for transit goods, as well as goods and vehicles transported by individuals for non-commercial purposes. The implementation of these measures, as noted, will facilitate the simplification of customs procedures, reduce clearance times, and increase process transparency.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a joint working group and strengthen electronic communication, information exchange, and operational coordination between the responsible agencies.
At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed confidence that the agreements reached would contribute to strengthening constructive dialogue, increasing mutual trust, and enhancing the effectiveness of customs cooperation in the interests of both countries.
