An expert group meeting to approve the draft Concept for the Development of Fundamental Science in the Commonwealth of Independent States took place on January 30 at the CIS headquarters, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The meeting was opened by Shamsiddin Koziev, Deputy Director of the Department for Cooperation in Political, Humanitarian, and Social Spheres of the CIS Executive Committee, who emphasized the significant importance of the project under discussion for scientific cooperation among the Commonwealth member states.
Representatives from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan and the Commonwealth Executive Committee took part in the meeting.
The experts reviewed the comments and suggestions received on the draft Concept, finalized it, and agreed on the document. It was decided to submit it to the CIS Council of Heads of Government for consideration in accordance with established procedures.
The draft Concept for the Development of Fundamental Science is a specialized document that develops and details the provisions of the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2026–2035, approved by the heads of government of the CIS in September 2025 in Minsk.
The document focuses on the development of fundamental research, which, due to its long-term nature and high degree of uncertainty, is the least attractive to private investment and requires coordinated government support.
The project aims to create an effective environment within the CIS's common scientific and technological space for generating new fundamental knowledge, which will serve as the basis for achieving the objectives set forth in the Scientific and Technological Development Strategy.
