In the capital of Tajikistan, police officers detained two citizens on suspicion of fraud, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic reported.
According to law enforcement, a 45-year-old local resident contacted the Sino District Department of Internal Affairs No. 2 and reported that in 2024, a 43-year-old Dushanbe resident defrauded him of 613,000 somoni and $46,000 under the pretext of prompt repayment. He only managed to recover 558,910 somoni and $19,850, while the remaining 54,090 somoni and $26,150 remain outstanding.
Furthermore, during the investigative operations, a 36-year-old resident of the Vosseysky District was detained. In early 2022, he gained the trust of a 37-year-old resident of Istaravshan and stole nine cars of various makes from him, worth a total of 1.4 million somoni. Instead of returning the money, the suspect sold the cars and used the proceeds for personal needs.
An investigation is underway into both incidents. Law enforcement agencies are reviewing all the circumstances of the crimes committed and identifying possible additional instances of fraud.
