The bridge and road construction project in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, implemented as part of the Central Asia Regional Transport Improvement Program (CARIP-4), has been awarded the 2025 FIDIC Contract Users' Award in the "Project of the Year" category. This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The winners of the international award were announced on December 2, 2025, in London. The organizers were impressed by the project, which provides a vital transport corridor in one of the most inaccessible mountainous regions of Central Asia. The jury particularly noted the close collaboration with the local community, which was actively involved from the early stages of implementation.
The project was also praised for its application of World Bank gender-responsive guidelines, effective construction quality management, and sound financial management, which resulted in significant cost savings.
The project's implementation was made possible thanks to the instructions, orders, and support of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, as well as the collective efforts of the BRAMOM-4 Project Implementation Group under the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan.
The project is unique in that it provides vital transportation links in the challenging mountainous conditions of Central Asia. The program included the construction of a new bridge in Khorog, an avalanche control gallery, and associated road sections in Barsem, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
The FIDIC International Contract Users' Awards recognise outstanding achievements in the application of FIDIC standards to projects that have a significant impact on the social, economic and environmental quality of life worldwide.
It's worth noting that Tajikistan is the first country in Central Asia to receive this award. Among CIS countries, Russia previously received the FIDIC Prize in 2016 for the construction of the Burginsky Bridge across the Ob River in Novosibirsk.
