Seismic exploration of hydrocarbon resources has resumed in the mountainous regions of southwestern Tajikistan, conducted jointly by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and the international company BGP. NIAT Khovar reported this, citing the corporation.
Work began in August of this year after a hiatus of more than a decade and includes a 2D seismic survey project in the Bokhtar area. The project aims to study the geological structure of the subsurface and identify promising oil and gas deposits using modern technologies.
"The Bokhtar region is characterized by complex geological and topographic conditions. Elevation differences reach several hundred meters, hard rock and unstable soils complicate equipment installation, and thick layers of anhydrite and salts at depths of up to 6,000 meters create additional challenges," the company noted.
Despite this, BGP, with its extensive international experience, employs highly qualified specialists and state-of-the-art equipment to collect and process seismic data. The project utilizes cutting-edge technologies, including multidomain imaging and tomographic inversion, which improve the accuracy of the information obtained.
BGP entered the Tajik market in 2013 following an international tender, and in 2014, began its first field surveys in the Bokhtar block. Today, the company continues to implement innovative solutions and maintain high quality standards.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the State Geological Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and local authorities. Training national personnel remains a key focus: thousands of residents of the region are undergoing training in everything from geodetic measurements to data processing. This not only ensures high-quality work but also contributes to job creation and stimulates the region's socioeconomic development.
According to experts, seismic surveys are a key step in exploring the hydrocarbon potential of the subsoil. The data obtained will expand the search for new oil and gas deposits and could play a significant role in the future development of Tajikistan's energy sector.
