An agreement on cooperation between member states to prevent the spread of locust pests was signed during a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Minsk, the CIS Executive Committee reported.
The document aims to develop regional and cross-border cooperation, conduct joint activities on phytomonitoring and plant protection, implement digital pest monitoring systems, and train and improve the skills of specialists in the field of agricultural crop protection.
The agreement was prepared based on proposals from relevant ministries and agencies of the CIS countries and aims to strengthen coordination of national efforts in combating locust pests. Implementation of the document will enable timely responses to emerging threats, minimize economic damage, and improve food security in the region.
It is noted that the Republic of Tajikistan will chair the CIS in 2025. A meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State is expected in Dushanbe in the first half of October, where further measures to ensure the security and sustainability of agriculture in the region are planned to be discussed.
