The Trump administration is calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept the American leader's plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip and warns that continuing the conflict will only further isolate Israel, Interfax reports, citing Axios.
According to the portal, this position was outlined at a meeting in New York between US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner with Netanyahu and Israeli Minister of Strategic Planning Ron Dermer.
"The White House is telling Netanyahu that continuing the war will further isolate Israel, while ending it will have the opposite effect," Axios writes, citing a source.
The publication emphasizes that the American administration strongly urges Netanyahu to accept Trump's plan to end the war in the Palestinian enclave.
Netanyahu is expected to meet with Trump himself on Monday to discuss this plan and further actions in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier Thursday, Trump told reporters at the White House that he "will not allow" Netanyahu to annex the West Bank.
"I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank (…). Enough is enough. It's time to stop," the US president said, adding that he had discussed the issue directly with the Israeli prime minister.
Axios believes that Trump's public statements "will likely put an end to Netanyahu's annexation plans."
The portal notes that on Tuesday, Trump held a meeting with leaders and senior officials from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan and asked them to support his plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
Arab leaders have put forward several conditions for Trump to support his plan, including a commitment by Israel not to annex parts of the West Bank or the Gaza Strip.
"Trump has made it clear to leaders that he will block such a move," Axios notes.
