On September 26, during a working visit to the city of Vahdat, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon inaugurated the new building of the Children's Tuberculosis Hospital at the National Center for Tuberculosis, Lung, and Thoracic Surgery. The head of state inspected the facility's operating conditions and the level of medical care provided, according to the presidential press service.
The hospital was built with the support of the Government of Tajikistan and financing from the German Development Bank (KfW). The new facility, built within the framework of state social policy, utilizes a modern design and complies with international healthcare standards, providing comfortable conditions for the diagnosis and treatment of children with tuberculosis.
Construction work on the site began in 2023, involving more than 100 local specialists. The total project budget was €2,595,274, and construction was completed in September 2025. The total area of the hospital is 15,434 m², with the building itself measuring 1,554.8 m².
The two-story building has 50 beds. The hospital offers all necessary diagnostic and treatment facilities, ensuring high standards of medical care. It includes departments for the treatment of active tuberculosis, relapses, a specialized unit for the adapted form of childhood tuberculosis, a pediatric surgical unit, and other necessary units.
Emomali Rahmon emphasized that protecting children's health and developing healthcare are always at the center of attention of the country's government.
As a reminder, the Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Hospital, which opened in 2011, has been reconstructed since 2006 as part of the State Program to Combat Tuberculosis in Tajikistan and with the support of the President. In 2013, the facility was transformed into the National Center for Tuberculosis Diseases, Lungs, and Thoracic Surgery with 400 beds. Currently, the center operates 14 departments with a total of 420 beds.
The opening of the new Children's Tuberculosis Hospital in Vahdat is a clear demonstration of the Government of Tajikistan's commitment to future generations. Utilizing the new hospital's capabilities will take the diagnosis and treatment of dangerous childhood diseases to a whole new level and improve the overall quality of healthcare in the country.
