Officers from the Konibodom Department of Internal Affairs uncovered and stopped three cases of fraud related to fortune telling and witchcraft services, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan reported.
The perpetrators, residents of the city of Kanibadam, offered "fortune-telling" services to citizens, promising family happiness, healing from illnesses, success in work, and good fortune in life. For example, citizen Anzurat Mamadzhanovna Makhkamova, born in 1961, used turtle bones for "divination" and warding off the evil eye, viewing fortune-telling as a source of income.
Karim Sharifdzhanovich Dadodzhonov, born in 1974, has been performing "prayer healing" and other unconventional practices using various objects since 2020. For example, he wrapped clients' heads in colorful rags, promising relief from suffering and success. It was established that the perpetrator himself did not believe in his abilities.
Nori Dadodzhonovna Zoirova, born in 1961, received clients at her home, promising to help them in difficult situations. Her actions have also been classified as fraudulent activity.
All three cases have been reported under Article 482 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Tajikistan, which provides for a fine. The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that operational measures to suppress the fortune tellers' activities and prevent citizens from contacting them are ongoing throughout the Sughd region.
