At a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Economic Council held in Dushanbe on September 5, measures to simplify product certification and overcome trade barriers between member countries were discussed. This was announced at a press conference by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Khokim Kholikzoda, according to NIAT Khovar.
"At today's meeting, we had a substantive exchange of views on a wide range of pressing issues, reflecting the region's current challenges and economic development priorities. The meeting took place in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere," he noted.
According to Khokim Kholikzoda, the agenda included issues of digitalization, innovative development, social policy, and security. During the meeting, recommendations were adopted to harmonize technical regulations and simplify product certification procedures, which will reduce trade barriers between CIS countries.
Furthermore, the participants approved the draft unified budget for the CIS bodies for 2026, focused on sustainable development, digitalization, and humanitarian cooperation. Under the heading of digitalization of multimodal transport corridors, a strategy for the digital transformation of logistics was approved, including the implementation of electronic platforms for cargo tracking and transit optimization.
An action plan for the development of the digital economy through 2035 was also adopted, including support for startups, digital skills development, and expanded internet access. According to Khokim Kholikzoda, these measures are aimed at shaping an information society and creating favorable conditions for the innovative development of CIS countries.
