The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan sent an official note to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressing its strong disagreement with the violation of the rights of Uzbek citizens in Russia. This was reported on Thursday by the Kazinform news agency, citing Aniq.uz.
In its appeal, the Uzbek side expressed concern over instances of unauthorized searches and harsh treatment of migrants. The agency emphasized that such actions are contrary to the spirit of strategic partnership and friendly relations between the two countries.
The document emphasizes the need for strict adherence to human rights and international law. It also notes that the Uzbek Embassy in Moscow has documented instances of force being used against Uzbek citizens by certain officials.
“Such actions constitute a violation of human rights and require a proper legal assessment,” the note states.
Uzbek Foreign Ministry spokesperson Akhror Burkhanov reported that the ministry is monitoring the situation. He said, in particular, that an investigation is underway into an incident that sparked widespread public outcry in August. A video surfaced online of a man in the Moscow region rudely insulting a taxi driver based on his ethnicity.
In its note, Uzbekistan called for the identity of the perpetrator to be established and brought to justice in accordance with Russian law.
Burkhanov noted that the state ensures the protection of the rights of its citizens regardless of where they live.
