Construction has begun on ten additional parking bays for oversized aircraft and a new taxiway at Dushanbe International Airport. The work is being carried out as part of the "Open Skies" policy adopted by the Tajik government in the field of civil aviation, according to the airport's press center.
According to the company, the project involves the complete reconstruction of 250,000 square meters of existing taxiways and parking areas. Repairs and new asphalt pavements will be carried out to improve the safety and efficiency of aircraft handling.
In addition, a new taxiway, 1.5 km long and 60 m wide, will be built at the airport. It will ensure safer and more efficient aircraft movement between the runway and the aprons. Construction is scheduled to be completed within three months.
As the department noted, the "Open Skies" policy, introduced in June 2025, envisages the abolition of the parity system that previously limited the number of foreign airline flights proportionally to those of national carriers. This measure is aimed at fostering competition, expanding the route network, and increasing the affordability of air travel.
