In the first half of 2025, 89 incidents involving water bodies were recorded in Tajikistan, resulting in 91 deaths. This was reported at a press conference by the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the data presented, 22 women and 69 men were among the dead. By region, the highest number of fatalities (41) was recorded in Khatlon Region, 14 in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, 17 in Sughd Region, 12 in the Districts of Republican Subordination, and 7 in Dushanbe.
The deaths are distributed by age category as follows:
up to 4 years old – 10 people,
from 5 to 10 years old – 18 people,
from 11 to 16 years old – 17 people,
from 17 to 35 years old – 30 people,
over 35 years old – 16 people.
According to the head of the Emergency Situations Committee, Rajabali Rahmonali, during the specified period, the agency's employees rescued 20 people who were in the water on the verge of death.
The causes of death were distributed as follows:
18 people drowned due to failure to comply with swimming rules,
15 – due to carelessness,
4 – due to lack of control on the part of parents,
12 – as a result of traffic accidents,
11 people committed suicide,
3 were in a state of alcoholic intoxication,
8 – for unknown reasons.
The Emergency Situations Committee once again reminded the public of the need to observe safety regulations when near bodies of water, especially in the summer, and parents of their responsibility for the lives and health of their children.
