Tajikistan has submitted five new nominations for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This was announced by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan Matlubakhon Sattoriyon during a press conference, NIAT Khovar reports.
As the Minister noted, an important achievement was the inclusion of the monuments of Ancient Khuttal in the World Heritage List. The corresponding decision was made on July 12, 2025, at the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in Paris.
The nomination covers 11 unique archaeological and architectural sites located in the Vose, Dangara, Jaloliddini Balkhi, Farkhor and Khovaling districts of the Khatlon region. Among them:
Buddhist monastery Ajinateppa, Archaeological complex Kalai Khulbuk – the former capital of Ancient Khuttal, Settlement of Shakhristoni Khulbuk, Manzarateppa, Kalai Zoli Zard, Mausoleum of Mavlono Tojiddin, Kofirkala (Khalevard), Shakhristoni Zoli Zar, Caravanserai Tokhir, Settlement of Shakhrteppa, Buddhist temple Khishteppa.
Of particular importance is Kalai Khulbuk, an archaeological complex containing the ruins of the palace of the capital of ancient Khuttal. Its restoration and study became possible thanks to the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the comprehensive measures taken to preserve the historical and cultural heritage.
In addition, in order to prevent the export of valuable historical objects outside the country, the Ministry of Culture, together with the Customs Service of the Republic, took measures to strengthen control over the movement of cultural values. As a result of the measures taken, more than 20 historical coins, which had passed state examination, were returned to the country's museums.
The Ministry continues to actively work on preparing new applications to UNESCO and strengthening international cultural cooperation.
