Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to North Korea on June 8-9, Xinhua reports. This will be his first trip to the DPRK in over six years.
At the end of May, the Renhap news agency, citing informed sources, reported that the Chinese president could visit North Korea as early as next week.
The source noted that the Chinese leader could act as a mediator in relations between North Korea and the United States. During his state visit to China in January, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung asked Xi Jinping to help mediate inter-Korean relations, and the Chinese leader responded positively to this request.
The upcoming visit will be Xi Jinping's first foreign trip in 2026. Earlier last month, the Chinese president hosted Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, US President Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing.
