On May 20–21, a Coordination Meeting of Chief Narcologists of the CSTO Member States was held in St. Petersburg as part of Russia's chairmanship of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Organization's press service reported.
The event, held in person with some delegations joining via video link, was attended by representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, international organizations, and heads of drug treatment services from CSTO member states.
During the meeting, participants discussed the situation related to non-medical drug use in the CSTO area, as well as current trends in the drug situation.
Particular attention was paid to issues of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals suffering from drug addiction disorders, including those associated with the use of new psychoactive substances.
The meeting participants also discussed issues of coordinating interactions with law enforcement agencies, international cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and measures to reduce drug demand.
The meeting included an exchange of experiences and modern methods in the field of preventing psychoactive substance use and drug-related diseases.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to conduct mutual internships for relevant specialists and implement the Anti-Drug Strategy of the CSTO member states for 2026–2030.
In addition, the meeting participants visited the St. Petersburg City Narcological Hospital, where they learned about the work of the city's drug addiction service departments.
The next Coordination Meeting of Chief Narcologists of the CSTO Member States is reportedly planned to be held in Tajikistan in 2027.
The Coordination Meeting of Chief Narcologists of the CSTO Member States was established by a decision of the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the Organization in 2013.
