On January 27, Russian attack drones attacked a passenger train traveling from Barvinkove to Lviv to Chop in the Kharkiv region. Russian forces reportedly used three Shahed-type drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported .
One of the drones struck a locomotive, and another struck a passenger car, where a fire broke out after the impact. There were 291 passengers on the train at the time of the attack. The car that sustained a direct hit had 18 people in it.
So far, four people have been confirmed dead. Rescuers are continuing the search for four more. Two passengers were injured and were evacuated by the train crew and transferred to medical personnel. The injured were hospitalized.
According to Following the completion of urgent repairs, the 10 surviving carriages of train #47/103 resumed service. They departed on the return journey, transporting 147 passengers to safer areas. The train also picked up a civilian evacuation group from Lozova.
Medics, rescuers, and a Ukrzaliznytsia team are working at the site of the attack. Emergency rescue operations and the investigation into the impact of the strike are ongoing.
