On the night of Friday, January 30, 2026, Russian armed forces launched a massive strike on Ukraine using 111 drones and one Iskander-M ballistic missile, the Ukrainian Air Force reported. Ukrainian forces recorded missile strikes and 25 attack drones at 15 locations. Air defense forces managed to shoot down or intercept 80 Russian drones, but attacks continued during the day.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported a major fire in a Kharkiv suburb that erupted after a missile strike on a civilian warehouse building. The fire covered over 5,000 square meters. More than 80 rescuers and bomb disposal experts have been deployed to combat the aftermath.
The new attack occurred less than a day after reports that an agreement had been reached to temporarily halt attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.
Last night, US President Donald Trump announced that Moscow had agreed to suspend strikes on Ukrainian cities for a week due to extreme cold. "I personally asked Putin not to fire on Kyiv and various cities for a week. He agreed," the White House chief said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed an agreement with Russia to temporarily halt attacks on energy infrastructure and praised Trump's mediation efforts. He later clarified that there had been no direct dialogue or signed agreements with Russia. Zelenskyy added that if there were no strikes on Ukraine's energy sector, Kyiv would respond in kind. "I think this is the response the negotiating facilitator, namely the United States, was counting on," the Ukrainian president explained.
Moscow confirmed the conversation between the US and Russian leaders. Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov reported that Trump personally requested Vladimir Putin to refrain from striking Kyiv until February 1 to create favorable conditions for negotiations. Peskov noted that Putin agreed to his American counterpart's request, but declined to specify whether this involved an "energy truce" or a cessation of all strikes. "I have nothing to add in terms of details to what has already been said," the Kremlin spokesman said.
