On Sunday afternoon, February 1, Russian forces launched massive drone strikes on the city of Zaporizhzhia. At least six people were injured in the strike on a maternity hospital, including two women undergoing medical examinations at the time of the attack. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, announced this on Telegram, posting photos and videos of the aftermath.
Later, the head of the regional military administration reported a second wave of attacks on the city. According to him, another Russian drone exploded in one of Zaporizhzhia's districts. Three people were initially injured, including a small boy.
Fedorov also reported the threat of ballistic missiles and guided bombs being used in the Zaporizhzhia region and other regions of Ukraine, where air raid alerts have been issued. No further details were available at the time of publication.
Earlier that day, a drone attack in Dnipro killed a woman and a man, Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, reported on Telegram. The strike destroyed one private home and damaged two others. Furthermore, artillery and drone strikes in the Nikopol district damaged two apartment buildings and four private homes, as well as cafes, several stores, cars, a gas pipeline, and a power line.
According to the morning report of the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night of February 1, Russian armed forces used 90 drones in strikes against northern and eastern Ukraine, 60 of which were Shahed-class. According to the Ukrainian military, the launches were carried out from Orel, Bryansk, Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Donetsk. Ukrainian air defense assets intercepted 76 attack drones. Fourteen attack drones were hit at nine locations, and downed drones and their wreckage were found at two locations.
At around 4:00 PM local time, the Ukrainian Air Force reported a threat of ballistic missile use from the Kursk region, as well as the movement of Russian drones in the direction of the Kyiv, Sumy, Zhytomyr, and Vinnytsia regions.
