Football club Khujand has signed contracts with its head coach and four players from Serbia, Fergana.ru reported, citing the club's press service.
Last season, the team was coached by Russian specialist Alexander Krestinin. Khujand's roster included two Russian players, Nikita Zheimo and Grigory Minosyan, as well as Uzbek players Shakhboz Nuriddinov and Asiljon Begimkulov. All of them left the club at the end of the season. Furthermore, the resignation of club director Farrukh Marofiev, who had worked with the club for the past three years, was announced. Marofiev, however, continues to prepare the team for the upcoming season.
62-year-old Serbian Milan Milanovic, who has previously worked with clubs in Kazakhstan, among others, has been appointed the new head coach of Khujand. When selecting a coach, the club's management primarily considered the candidate's personal qualities, and Milanovic was deemed a suitable candidate.
On January 28, four Serbian footballers were officially presented: Petar Gigic, Nikola Eskić, Jovan Andjelković and Darko Isalović, as well as Belarusian goalkeeper Alexander Nechayev.
The most famous players are Petar Gigich and Nikola Eskic. They have over 100 matches under their belt in the Serbian Premier League. Gigich won the Hungarian Cup and played in the Greek Championship. Eskic has experience playing for the Kazakh club Aksu and the Lithuanian Championship.
Last season, Khujand finished fifth in the league. Although the season was initially considered a failure, the team improved under Krestinin's leadership. The Russian coach decided to leave the club at the end of his contract.
