On January 9, Sughd Region Governor Rajab Akhmadzoda inspected the construction of the Tajik Metallurgical Plant LLC's iron ore enrichment plant in the B. Gafurov district, according to the governor's press service.
The implementation of this project is an important step toward developing the country's mining industry, strengthening production capacity, and expanding exports of domestic products. This plant will be the first iron ore beneficiation facility in Tajikistan since independence.

Construction is being carried out with domestic investment and employs modern technologies for mining, processing, and beneficiating iron ore, as well as producing high-quality concentrate for domestic consumption and export. According to officials, approximately 50 percent of the construction work has been completed to date, with the participation of domestic and foreign specialists, and equipment installation is ongoing. Iron ore reserves at this deposit are estimated at approximately 60 million tonnes.
The plant's construction is being implemented within the framework of the policies of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon. The project aims to meet domestic demand for high-quality products and increase exports.

The plant is planned to be commissioned in two stages: the first stage by 2027, and the second stage by 2031. The plant's design annual capacity is to mine and process 2.5 million tons of ore, producing 1.1 million tons of concentrate with an iron content of 62–65 percent. Other ferrous and non-ferrous metals will also be extracted from the deposit. Some of the output will be used for domestic demand, while a significant portion will be exported, reducing dependence on imports.
Over 800 specialists are involved in the construction and installation of equipment at 15 sites. After the launch of the first phase of the plant, it is planned to provide permanent employment to 1,200 people with competitive wages, and after full operation, over 2,000 more. All necessary conditions have been created for the employees, including modern housing and three hot meals a day.
Sughd Region Governor Rajab Akhmadzoda emphasized that the construction of such a large industrial facility is an important step toward creating new jobs, increasing industrial production, and strengthening the country's economy.
