On December 20, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, participated in and addressed the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue Summit in Tokyo, Japan, the press service of the head of state reported.
Our country's President Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for its support in implementing projects in the areas of economics, infrastructure, transport, energy, agriculture, ecology, healthcare, education, and sanitation.
Given the key importance of a green economy for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, Emomali Rahmon supported attracting Japanese investment and technology to implement regional countries' green energy strategies, particularly the development of hydropower capacity, as well as to Tajikistan's real economy.
It was noted that in this direction, our country is actively pursuing a policy of transition to "green" industry, as well as the use of innovative and environmentally friendly technologies in key industrial sectors.
It was emphasized that, in the context of new economic realities, all industrial relations and mutual cooperation between business structures must undoubtedly be aimed at further development and ensuring the economic stability of our countries.
Japan's contribution to the implementation of small and medium-sized projects in our country was highly appreciated, and Japan's participation in the implementation of large-scale projects of both national and regional significance in Tajikistan was also considered important.
Emomali Rahmon named the following sectors as relative priorities: hydropower, mining, light and food industries, automotive manufacturing, and metallurgy.
Given Tajikistan's vast natural resources, our head of state, Emomali Rahmon, expressed Tajikistan's readiness for broad cooperation with its Japanese partners in their extraction and processing.
Due attention was given to the issues of climate change, floods, drought, dust storms, torrential rains, and destruction of ecosystems.
"We are well aware of the importance of preserving water sources as a fundamental foundation for food security, energy, and sustainable development," noted the President of our country, the esteemed Emomali Rahmon.
In this context, it was noted that our country is a leader in promoting water diplomacy.
Emomali Rahmon called on all interested countries to actively participate in the High-Level International Conference within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process, which will be held in May 2026.
The head of state noted: “We are interested in cooperation in various areas of biodiversity conservation, waste recycling, and adaptation to climate change.”
It was noted that our country has a particular interest in digital technology and artificial intelligence, as these areas open up new horizons for scientific research, environmental control, and improved resource management.
Regarding our country's initiatives to adopt a special UN Resolution entitled "The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Creating New Opportunities for Sustainable Development in Central Asia," the support of Japan and other partner countries was recognized as appropriate.
President Emomali Rahmon emphasized that Tajikistan, as a landlocked country, has a particular interest in developing logistics and transport communications.
It was also noted that improving road and rail infrastructure, expanding air links, and implementing digital logistics solutions all create favorable opportunities for trade, investment, and economic development in the region.
It was proposed to build logistics centers and agro-logistics complexes in the border regions of the North and South of the country to develop transit cargo transportation.
Emomali Rahmon called Japan a reliable partner for Tajikistan in training and developing personnel through JICA programs and JDS grants.
To expand fruitful cooperation with Japan, a number of areas were identified and proposed, including improving the professional skills of specialists, training and educating technical personnel in the industrial sector, and introducing green technologies, as well as establishing research laboratories for hydropower, sustainable agriculture, and disaster management.
In conclusion, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon noted that all proposals presented at this event reflect our aspirations for peace, stability, mutual respect, and sustainable development.
