On Thursday, Fuxing Island, billed as an international hub for entrepreneurs and developers, officially opened in Shanghai. The island is home to the first group of 12 domestic and international incubators, as well as 14 innovative startups.
Fuxing Island, located in the northeastern part of Yangpu District, covers an area of 1.3 square kilometers. The center is expected to foster the development of new industries, including artificial intelligence, and the implementation of digital twin systems in the urban environment, amid ongoing urban renewal and the preservation of industrial heritage.
Industrial buildings previously located on the island were converted into shared laboratories, proof-of-concept centers, and experimental facilities. This created an accessible and open entrepreneurial environment for developers and startups from around the world.
Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining attended the opening ceremony. In his opening speech, he emphasized the need to expand technology application scenarios and create an ecosystem conducive to entrepreneurship on the island.
Chen noted that new technologies, including artificial intelligence, should be used to improve the efficiency of urban space management, accelerate digital and ecological transformation, and find new approaches to managing megacities like Shanghai.
