A ceremonial gathering dedicated to Civil Aviation Day of the Republic of Tajikistan was held in the capital of Tajikistan. The event was attended by aviation veterans, executives, specialists, and employees of the industry's structural divisions, according to the Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of the Republic.
Agency Director Khabibullo Nazarzoda congratulated all national aviation workers on their professional holiday and emphasized the industry's importance to the country's economy. He stated that throughout the 34 years of Tajikistan's independence, civil aviation has developed thanks to the support of President Emomali Rahmon and plays a key role in strengthening transport infrastructure, expanding international cooperation, and ensuring safe air travel.
The meeting noted that, over the more than 100-year history of Tajikistan's aviation industry, the sector has evolved from operating small single-engine aircraft to modern passenger and cargo airliners. At the same time, airport infrastructure has significantly developed, communications and navigation systems, takeoff and landing control systems have been improved, electronic flight control systems have been introduced, and flight safety has been enhanced.
Currently, the country has four international airports—Dushanbe, Khujand, Kulyab, and Bokhtar—two airlines—Tajik Air and Somon Air—as well as the State Unitary Enterprise Tajik Air Navigation. Established in 2017, the Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan regulates and oversees the activities of aviation enterprises based on international ICAO standards, the country's Air Code, and other relevant regulations.
Historical reference indicates that the date of the country's Civil Aviation Day celebration is linked to the first flight of a German Ju-13 aircraft from Bukhara to Dushanbe on September 3, 1924, performed by Tajik pilots Rashidbek Akhriev and Pyotr Komarov. This day is considered the official beginning of the aviation sector in Tajikistan. In 1994, by a resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan, September 3 was established as Civil Aviation Day, and since then, it has been celebrated annually in the country.
During the event, industry developments were presented, prospects for expanding flight geography and increasing the number of international flights were outlined, as well as the implementation of the strategic goals and plans of Tajikistan's civil aviation authorities. Particular attention was paid to strengthening cooperation with foreign countries and ensuring a high level of air travel safety.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the leadership of the Civil Aviation Agency awarded medals and certificates of honor to veterans and specialists who made significant contributions to the development and progress of national aviation.
