As of September 1, 35,236 tons of cotton had been harvested in Tajikistan, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the department, the bulk of the harvest came from farms in the Khatlon region, where 33,432 tons were collected.
The Ministry noted that cotton is a strategic agricultural crop for Tajikistan, expected to yield higher economic returns than other agricultural crops. "With proper agricultural practices, a bountiful harvest is possible," the specialists emphasized.
Cotton in the republic is grown primarily for its fiber, used in the textile industry. However, other parts of the plant are also used: the seeds are used for oil and animal feed, and the stems are used to produce various products. The fiber yield of cotton grown in the country is 34–35%, with some varieties reaching 39–40%.
