Russian troops carried out a targeted drone strike on a medical facility in Sumy, regional authorities reported on Monday.
Oleg Grigorov, head of the Sumy Regional Civil-Military Administration (OVA), reported on Telegram that the attack damaged a medical facility in the city's Kovpakovsky district. "The enemy targeted the medical facility with a drone. At the time of the attack, there were 166 people inside the facility, including 11 children," he noted.
The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, confirmed the information. According to him, the strike hit a maternity hospital. "Sumy. As a result of the Russian strike, the roof of the perinatal center caught fire. At the time of the attack, 11 children, 35 patients, and 120 staff were inside. Everyone managed to find shelter. The shelling continues," Yermak wrote on Telegram.
Besides Sumy, attacks using attack drones were recorded in other regions of Ukraine. In Chernihiv, an energy facility was damaged. Chernihivoblenergo reported that the damage occurred at the facility, but restoration work has already begun, taking into account the security situation.
In the Kharkiv region, four people were injured as a result of another Russian shelling in the Novobavarsky district and a suburb of the city, reported Oleg Sinegubov, head of the local special forces unit. Among the injured was a 63-year-old man who sought medical attention.
In the Odesa region, an attack using Shahed drones damaged a civilian industrial facility. OVA Chief Oleh Kiper reported that the fire at the scene was quickly extinguished by State Emergency Service personnel. No casualties or significant damage were caused.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night of October 6, Russian forces used 116 attack unmanned aerial vehicles of various types, including Shahed and Gerber. The UAVs were launched from the Kursk and Bryansk regions, Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from Gvardeyskoye in annexed Crimea.
Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down 83 drones in the northern, southern, eastern, and central directions. "Hits by 30 attack UAVs were recorded in seven locations. The attack is ongoing, and several enemy drones remain in the airspace," the Ukrainian Armed Forces noted.
